The Levi's Type 2 trucker (produced 1953–1971) is the original design — it carries Big E tags, copper rivets, selvedge construction details, and the pleated chest pockets that distinguish it from everything made after. Buyers who can spot a Big E on a pair of jeans can spot one on a jacket. Prices on Type 2 truckers have been rising since spring 2026 as the overlap between 501 collectors and trucker buyers grows.
Timing: The post–Big E Levi's Type 3 trucker (1971–1983) is the affordable entry point. It dropped the Big E designation but kept most of the same construction quality — single-stitch seams, copper rivets, selvedge denim in earlier examples. Type 3s in good condition clear on eBay at $80–200. Authentic Big E Type 2s run $200–500. The difference between those two prices will shrink as buyers who started with 501s move into trucker jackets. The Type 3 is the buy right now — it prices like generic vintage while most buyers don't yet know what makes it better.
